Last updated on July 4th, 2017 at 03:07 pm EST

Ever since news of Dish TV suing TVaddons (www.tvaddons.ag) and Zem TV surfaced, the Kodi addons community is in a spot of bother. A few Kodi addons have since shutdown, and some have been taken over by other developers. The TVaddons website is itself down leaving Kodi addon fans searching for new repositories for their addons. The latest news regarding the case from Dish TV is that subpoenas have been issues against TVAddons and Zem TV Owners.

A Texas court issued subpoenas against owners TVAddons and Zem TV on request from Dish TV. Dish TV has sued both these parties for copyright infringement, and wants $150,000 USD for each offense committed. However, Dish TV does not know the true identity of the owners of TVAddons and Zem TV.

This is where the subpoena comes into the picture, Dish TV can now send a copy of the subpoena to the likes the hosting provider for tvaddons.ag, github (where code for ZemTV would have been hosted), Twitter, Facebook, Paypal etc and ask them to reveal the real identities to Dish TV.

The subpoenas from Dish TV are pretty detailed, for example from Twitter they want full name and information (which include physical address, email address, telephone number etc), IP addresses, all communications associated with :-

  • The email address [email protected];
  • The Twitter username “@shani_08_kodi”
  • The Twitter username “TV ADDONS”
  • The domain or website tvaddons.ag
  • The domain or website tvaddons.org
  • The domain or website streamingboxes.com.

Similarly, from Facebook they want full name and information (which include physical address, email address, telephone number etc), IP addresses, all communications associated with :-

  • The email address [email protected]
  • The Facebook username “Shani Shani”
  • The Facebook username “Shani Kodi”
  • The domain or website tvaddons.ag
  • The domain or website tvaddons.org
  • The domain or website streamingboxes.com.

It is pretty clear that Dish TV is trying to set an example by going after the owners of TVAddons and Zem Tv. They are trying to ensure that Kodi Addon community dies, and that addons cease to exist. However, the truth is developers behind the addons tend to lie low during such times, and come back when things have cooled down.
