Walmart – July 21, 2017

Walmart gets the honor for being the pioneer in SNES Classic fuckups. They opened pre-orders on at around 11:30pm EST on Friday July 21st, 2017. The pre-order link was up for around an hour. A week later Walmart decided to cancel all the pre-orders for reasons it was a technical glitch.

Best Buy – August 22, 2017

Best Buy decided to open pre-orders for the SNES Classic at 1:00am EST on August 22, 2017. The console was up for pre-order for 20-30 mins, but do not most of America was sleeping at that time. To add to the frustration, notification emails for the SNES Classic being in stock were not sent out. Thousands of people had signed up for notifications emails, but no one got it.

To add salt to the wounds, there was no limit on the number of orders you could place. Here’s proof.

Dear Best Buy,
Why did you even have the option when you do not have the functionality or the skill to do so.

Amazon – August 22, 2017

Amazon is what we would call the king of fuckups for August 22, 2017 pre-orders. Firstly, just like Best Buy, Amazon decided to open up pre-orders for the SNES Classic in the middle of the night. They started taking pre-orders for SNES Classic at around 4:00am EST. Secondly, they decided to come up with a whole new listing page (SKU) for this pre-order, so people who has signed up for alerts on the original listing were fucked up.

Below are pictures of both the listings, the Digital downloads once has since been deleted.

Thirdly, just like Best Buy they too had no limits on the number of orders you could place.

Update – August 25, 2017

Amazon has decided to limit quantities to one per order, and is sending out below email. Multiple orders with multiple quantities are reduced to one per order. If you had 3 orders with quantities say 1,4 and 5 your orders would be reduced to 1 each. So you will have 3 orders with quantities 1,1 and 1.

Walmart – August 22, 2017

Walmart put up pre-orders for the SNES Classic at 1:00pm EST on August 22, 2017 again. They lasted for a good 20-30 seconds as humans were fighting against the bots.

To give credit to Walmart, we did get a notification email from Walmart, but it came in 4 minutes late.

Target – August 22, 2017

Target SNES Classic pre-orders also went up at 1:00pm EST on August 22, 2017. The initial wave of pre-orders lasted 20-30 seconds only. However, people were able to place orders at later times also. It seems like Target was releasing stock in waves or batches, or they were canceling multiple orders.

Gamestop – August 22, 2017

Gamestop didn’t announce a specific pre-order time just like all the other retailers, but word got out that they would have SNES Classic pre-orders u at 1pm EST as well. What happened next was unbelievable for a company the size of Gamestop. Their website went down, and it was down for hours. A few people were able to pre-order the SNES Classic through their mobile app but that too after trying for hours.

Gamestop then decided to open up in-store pre-orders. The limit per store was 6-10 depending on the size of the store.

Once they sold out the consoles, customers also had the option to pre-order Gamestop bundles.

Toys R Us – August 22, 2017

Toys R Us decided not to have online pre-orders at all. They will just have in-store orders on release day so get ready to camp out peeps.

They have also decided to impose a limit of 1 per customer.

Walmart – August 25, 2017

In a surprise move, Walmart had the SNES Classic up for pre-order again on August 25, 2017 at around 6:26pm EST. The listing used was a new one, which we assume was to fool the bots. It lasted for around 18 minutes and a lot of peeps were able to place pre-orders. Again, multiple orders were allowed.

Update – August 30, 2017

Walmart is also canceling multiple orders. 1 or 2 per account seems to be the limit.
