How to : Yu Yureka Black Root, TWRP Recovery & Bootloader Unlock

Micromax has been overtaken by Chinese smartphone manufacturers in India, and is trying to regain it’s place. The latest smartphone from Micromax is the Yu Yureka Black. In this post we are going to show you how to achieve Yu Yureka Black root. To achieve root we will also have to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery on Yu Yureka Black.

Unlocking the bootloader will result in a factory reset, so make sure to backup your data.

Pre-Requisites

Windows users, download and install adb drivers for Yu Yureka black from here. Mac and Linux users need no drivers.

Setup adb and fastboot, follow the instructions linked below. Do not download drivers as we have already done that above. Make sure adb is working.

How to Setup ADB and fastboot (Windows, Mac and Linux)

Make sure to charge your device to 70-80 percent.

Download TWRP recovery from below link, rename it to recovery.img and place it in platform-tools folder.

Download TWRP recovery for Yu Yureka Black

Download Magisk and no verity and place the zip files in internal memory (root) of Yu Yureka Black.

Download latest version of Magisk

Download no verity

How to Unlock Bootloader Yu Yureka Black

Connect Yu Yureka Black to computer using usb cable, open command prompt (for Windows) or Terminal (for Mac and Linux). Navigate to platform-tools folder and issue below command.

Windows

adb reboot bootloader

Mac or Linux

./adb reboot bootloader

Next step is to unlock the bootloader. Issue below command to check if device is detected in bootloader mode

Windows

fastboot devices

Mac or Linux

./fastboot devices

If a device is listed, issue below command to unlock the bootloader. If device is not listed, you may need to uninstall and reinstall drivers.

Windows

fastboot oem unlock-go

Mac or Linux

./fastboot oem unlock-go

After running above command device will boot into recovery mode and data will be wiped automatically. Once data is wiped device will automatically reboot to system with unlocked Bootloader.

Next step is to install TWRP recovery on Yu Yureka Black

How to Install TWRP Recovery Yu Yureka Black

Connect Yu Yureka Black to computer using usb cable, open command prompt (for Windows) or Terminal (for Mac and Linux). Navigate to platform-tools folder and issue below command.

Windows

adb reboot bootloader

Mac or Linux

./adb reboot bootloader

Flash TWRP recovery

Issue below commands to flash TWRP recovery

Windows

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Mac or Linux

./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

You just installed TWRP recovery on your Yu Yureka Black. Now we will boot into TWRP and root Yu Yureka Black.

How to : Yu Yureka Black Root

Now that we have installed TWRP recovery, we need to reboot into TWRP recovery and root Yu Yureka Black. Issue below commands to boot into TWRP.

Windows

fastboot boot recovery.img

Mac or Linux

./fastboot boot recovery.img

Root using Magisk

Once in TWRP click on Install, then select Magisk zip file downloaded in pre-requisites, and swipe to confirm flashing zip file.

Once Magisk zip file is flashed successfully, repeat the same process to flash no verity zip file downloaded in pre-requisites section.

Reboot into Android

Click on back, then on Reboot and then on System and you will boot into Android.

How to : Check Yu Yureka Black Root

In case you want to check if your Xiaomi Mi6 is rooted or not, download Root Checker app, open it and click on Verify Root. If you are rooted you will get an appropriate message.
