How To : Verizon Google Pixel/Pixel XL Bootloader Unlock

Verizon is notorious for locking the bootloaders on it’s Android devices, and Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL were no exception; until now. The bootloader on Verizon Google Pixel and Verizon Google Pixel have been successfully unlocked. So, without further ado let’s get to it.

Warning

We are not responsible for any bricked devices. You are doing this at your own risk.Make sure to charge your Google Pixel/ Pixel XL to 70-80 percent. You will loose all your data and device will be factory reset, so make sure you have a backup.

How To : Verizon Google Pixel/Pixel XL Bootloader Unlock

Step 1 – Remove Google Account

Remove your Google account from the device. Settings -> Accounts -> Google, click on 3 dot menu on top left and then on Remove Account.

Step 2 – Remove Fingerprints and Screen Locks

Remove any fingerprints which you may have setup. Settings -> Security -> Fingerprint and then delete any fingerprints.

Next, remove any pin or passcode or passcode for screen lock. Settings -> Security -> Screen Lock, and select Swipe.

Step 3 – Remove Sim Card

Remove the sim card from your Google Pixel or Google Pixel XL.

Step 4 – Factory Reset Device

Go ahead and do a factory reset. This will wipe all your data so make sure you have a backup.

Settings -> System -> Reset -> Factory Data Reset -> Reset Phone -> Erase Everything

Once reset process is complete, click on reset.

Step 5 – Enable Developer Options

In the setup wizard, skip everything. Do not connect to any networks, or add a pin or fingerprint or Google Account. Go to Settings -> About on your Verizon Google Pixel or Verizon Google Pixel XL and tap on build number seven times. Once you see a message saying “Your are now a developer” go back to Settings and you will see an option called Developer Options. Open developer options and enable USB debugging.

Step 6 – Freeze Phone Process

Connect your phone to the computer. You should get a RSA warning for adb, accept that. Open command prompt (for Windows) or Terminal (for Mac and Linux) and navigate to platform-tools folder. Then issue below command :-

Windows

adb devices

Mac or Linux

./adb devices

Make sure your device shows as connected. If not, adb was not setup correctly. Next, issue below command.

Windows

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.phone

Mac or Linux

./adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.phone

Once done, reboot your device.

Step 7 – Connect to Wi-Fi

Once device has booted back into Android, connect to a Wi-Fi network. Open the Browser(Chrome) app and go to google.com just to make sure wifi is working.

Step 8 – Enable OEM Unlock

Next, go to Settings -> Developer Options and enable OEM unlock

Step 9 – Boot into fastboot mode

Boot into fastboot mode while device is on :-

  1. Connect Google Pixel/Pixel XL Phone to computer using usb cable.
  2. Open command prompt (for Windows) or Terminal (for Mac and Linux).
  3. Navigate to platform-tools folder and issue below command.

Windows

adb reboot bootloader

Mac or Linux

./adb reboot bootloader

Step 10 – Check Device in Fastboot Mode

Once Google Pixel/Pixel XL has booted into fastboot mode, issue below command to check if it is recognized in fastboot mode or not.

Windows

fastboot devices

Mac or Linux

./fastboot devices

If you see your Google Pixel/Pixel XL phone listed, then you are good. If not, then fastboot was not setup correctly.

Step 11 – Google Pixel/Pixel XL Bootloader Unlock

Issue below command to unlock the bootloader on your Google Pixel/Pixel XL.

Windows

fastboot flashing unlock

Mac or Linux

./fastboot flashing unlock

You will now get a warning on your Google Pixel/Pixel XL phone to confirm the bootloader unlock. Follow the instructions on screen and you are good to go.

Step 12 – Reboot Google Pixel/Pixel XL into Android

Windows

fastboot reboot

Mac or Linux

./fastboot reboot
